Welcome to our new school blog, where we will be keeping you up to date with our new ideas and initiatives running in our fantastic school and community.
Hi, my name is Keelan Crawford and I am in Mr. Breen’s fifth class. I enjoy playing sports such as hurling, soccer and Gaelic and my favourite animals are penguins. I am a member of the student council and was elected last year. I have enjoyed my role and would like to make sure St. Mary’s is a happy place for all students.
So far this school year in St. Mary’s, Mrs. Gallagher’s 2nd class have welcomed Knockavoe to perform Yoga and hip hop dancing on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children have really enjoyed this experience and look forward to continuing the programme after the Halloween break!
We are almost ready to apply for our Active Flag award, and we had lots of fun using our new active walkway during Maths week!
Our new Parents Association have been busy organising a Halloween swap shop which has been a great success for our school community. A lot of children brought in costumes to trade and loved getting to pick a new Halloween costume. It was so good we had another great success with our Christmas jumper swap!
The boys and girls of Mr. Quinn’s 3rd/4th class had fun with Vex robotics and have started building and coding their new robots using the VEX 2nd generation kits. Watch out, you might see them racing around the school.
This year we raised awareness for Dyslexia by promoting dyslexia week in St. Mary’s. The entire school got involved and we had fun learning about famous figures with dyslexia, I did mine on Tom Cruise! Mrs. Gallagher’s class designed a dyslexia mascot and Sean’s design ‘Paddy the pencil’ was the winner! On Friday we wore red and I got to wear my favourite Liverpool jersey.
Before the Halloween break we travelled to compete in a Gaelic blitz at Robert Emmets GAA grounds. We had great fun participating in this blitz alongside Murlog, Raphoe and Convoy. Great sportsmanship was shown by all schools and we even got some hot chocolate as a treat. I ended up spilling mine all over me!!
In a first for St. Mary’s national School we have a showjumping team made up of Coralie and Amelia (4th class) and Dillion (2nd). The children have been competing all around the country and doing amazing for the school! Best of luck!!
After the Halloween break we are going to continue running ‘Thumbs up Thursdays’ which allows students to bring in awards, medals or certificates for activities outside of school. Me, Conaire and Adam brought in our medals we won for Hurling! Up Setanta!!
The student council has been busy all year and recently we sent out a survey to all students asking their opinions and to vote on a school pet! This will be decided after Halloween and hopefully we’ll have a new cute friend arriving in St. Mary’s.
We would like to thank our entire school community, staff, parents, children, and friends for all of their support over the years. We look forward to a wonderful new term and wish you all the very best for the exciting year ahead.
